In the wake of COVID-19, we may all be getting a little stir-crazy, and time can’t seem to fly by any faster. We can’t believe it is September already. With September here and Labor Day upon us, we thought it would be the perfect time to get out of Placentia. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, rich with lovely landscapes and scenic coastlines. You can drive by one of the picturesque beaches or retreat to the mountains or desert. Here are some Labor Day getaways within driving distance of Placentia, CA:
- Malibu: If you love to drive and are craving the open road, Malibu is your best choice. The city is situated 27 miles west of Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, along the edges of the Santa Monica Mountains. The town is on both sides of the Pacific Coast Highway, and the road winds through canyons and over mountains.
- Ojai: Hidden among oak trees and orange groves, Ojai is an inland valley in Ventura County. There are several hiking trails, along with boating and bird watching at Lake Casitas.
- Santa Barbara: Depending on where you are leaving, you will pass the beach cities of Oxnard, Ventura, and Carpinteria. Once you get to Santa Barbara, you can go to the beach and stare at the Santa Barbara Mission architecture in awe, which is mandated by a city ordinance.
- Solvang: We may not be able to travel abroad just yet, but we can taste Denmark if we head over to Solvang. In 1946, a city ordinance mandated that any new construction adheres to the Scandinavian architecture. When you meander through the Solvang streets, it is like you are in a European village.
- Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake: If you are looking for a mountain getaway, Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear are both excellent options, and both are within 25 miles of each other. Lake Arrowhead is smaller and quieter, while Big Bear is more rustic.
